 ABOUT IGNITE THE SPARK

Welcome to Ignite The Spark, a blog devoted to music education in America's public schools. This project strives to investigate and show the tremendous impact that music education has in public school, and prove that the subject of music is a critical part of a student's education, and has a positive impact on their life. Furthermore, this blog will showcase some of the tremendous achievements that music students have done.

As our society becomes more focused on STEM subjects, it is important that we remember that the arts are just as essential to a student. This project grew out of the idea that schools may shove away arts-related classes in favor of classes that promote STEM ideals, or have a deep focus on computer programming. My own school cut away a domestic education class, one that focused on teaching students skills they would need later in life, in order to boost the budget elsewhere. While preparing students for the changing world by promoting STEM subjects, it is also important that education in music and the arts and subjects that will prepare a student for life outside their career is retained.

My name is Samuel Nolledo, and this is my project "Ignite The Spark." The objective of this project is to investigate the impact that music has on a student, and showcase what access to a music education can do for a student. This project is sponsored by the Silver Creek Leadership Academy (SCLA), a program that builds leaders that are prepared for anything that the 21st century world will throw at them.

To speak a little about myself; I am a high school student at Silver Creek High School in Longmont, CO. I am a part of the SCLA program, and have taken on a variety of leadership positions within the school itself as well as in some of our volunteering projects. If there are any questions about Ignite The Spark, feel free to contact me.
